Future Arrangements - The Present Continuous

We often use the present continuous tense (present progressive tense) for future arrangements.

We use the verb be and the gerund (infinitive + ing) .

For I, be changes into am.

For You, We and They, be changes into are.

For He, She and It, be changes into is:

Questions

Be comes before the subject in questions.

For closed questions (yes and no answers):

Contractions

We contract am, are and is into 'm, 're and 's:

Negatives

We often contract the negatives are not and is not into aren't and isn't.

We can also contract the negatives are not and is not into 're not and 's not:

* We cannot contract the negative am not into amn't.
* We can contract the negative am not into 'm not.

Short Answers

For closed questions (yes and no answers) we also use the verb be

Short answers are the same as with be in the present simple tense:
